self-care awareness month
Self–Care Awareness Month (celebrated every September) is a time to remind us that taking care of ourselves, first and foremost, is essential. Self-care is often neglected in our everyday lives. We all tend to put others needs before our own and it is crucial to remember, that we cannot fill another cup from our own empty vessel. While getting a massage or taking a walk are beautiful examples of taking time for our well-being, self-care can be more than that.

Self-Care has never been more important than it is right now. On the first Self-Care Awareness Summer Tour in 2018, Pati witnessed, first hand, the anxiousness, anxiety and stress many of us seemed to be under. From the pressures of modern technology, careers, jobs, families, and political tensions, many of us have little time, space or resources, to do anything for ourselves. Since then, she has developed an on-line, educational program to help stoke the Self-Care fire. Below is a small taste.

The Shift - from the 1st to the 2nd Half of Life, is simply an opportunity to view life from a new perspective. If we’ve spent our lives in our heads (1st Half of Life) then the invitation is to spend some time in our bodies (2nd Half of Life).

Seeing things from a new perspective. Our perceptions are affected by our generation, family codes, beliefs, experiences, society, culture, education and so on. They also come from old wounds or things that we have been hurt by in the past. Anything that you believe with absolute certainty is rarely true.

Advocate for yourself! If you are at all like me, you may have spent most of your life taking care of the needs of others - whether they liked it our not. Perhaps you may have even felt unappreciated and eventually, taken advantage of. Be as kind to yourself as you are to everyone else.

Trust. Ourselves and others. Worry is a lack of trust. Worry can be mistaken for caring when really it is a lack of trust or lack of faith that another can exist without our help or interference. Can you trust others to know what is best for them or do you think you have the answers to make their lives better?
